【辨析】the number of與a number of
①the number of意為“······的數(shù)量”,后面接名詞復(fù)數(shù),謂語動詞用單數(shù)形式。
eg:The number of the students is 2,000.
②a number of意為“許多;大量”,相當于a lot of,后面接名詞復(fù)數(shù),謂語動詞用復(fù)數(shù)形式。
eg:A number of apples are red.
eg:Health is better than wealth.
eg:He seldom gives his wife a present,does he?
eg:What do you like doing in your spare time?
eg:Can you spare me five minutes?
Why don't you+動詞原形······?=Why not+動詞原形······?
